MATTOON — On Wednesday, East Central Illinois Task Force officials went on a blitz resulting in 17 arrests, said Coles County Sheriff Darrell Cox.

“We called it ‘Operation Byrne Blitz’ to show what we can do here,” said Cox.

Officers made the arrests in Coles, Douglas and Moultrie counties. Four warrants were still out on Thursday on drug charges, police said.

Some charges were not drug-related, and one suspect faced an additional charge of illegal possession of a handgun.
