After many years of observing the reactions of both Democrats and Republicans regarding the sexual harassment of women, I have concluded that, A STRONG PARTY AFFILIATION WILL TRUMP RELIGIOUS CONSIDERATIONS nearly every time. Providing, of course, that the individual supporting or criticizing a person has any religious convictions at all.

I recall writing President Carter, a Democrat, and a supposedly religious man, regarding the Monica Lewinsky affair, asking him to speak out on this atrocious and immoral issue. To my surprise, he remained mute and uttered not a word.

When my own Democratic Senator Paul Simon, a fellow Lutheran, with whom I corresponded in like manner, sent me a short note that Clinton’s behavior was certainly unbecoming of a President. He also offered no official response on the issue. The Catholics continued to elect Ted Kennedy after he left a young lady to drown in a certain bay in Massachusetts.

I recall years before, when Wilbur Mills, a mild mannered conservative Republican Senator, who was caught intoxicated, while frolicking with a prostitute in a Washington fountain, there was little negative response from his fellow Republican Senators. So it goes.

One would expect Roy Moore, if elected by the people of Alabama, and Al Franken, to both be summarily expelled from the Senate. I say, don’t hold your breath. It seems there is a secret slush fund in Congress to pay off those women who are harassed by their male counterparts. Your taxpayer money at work, of course.

With the Congress’ low approval rating, and our tendency to elect those of questionable character, but with great personalities to the office, this is what we get.
