I truly believe this society doesn't focus much on Role models for young people of color. Our current times have changed drastically. I believe visual representation is everything to our current "Social Media" Era. No one reads the paper much anymore. People are instead taking Social media outlets as their only source of news. I believe showing visual representation of everyone helps.
For example. The movie the Black panther was released Feb. 16th. This movie has brought out everyone of color and showed that we can finally be proud to be of African descent. By Feb 25th the movie had made $700 million in ticket sales. This movie showed African culture from all over. The best thing about it is: there are African Americans as well as Africans in the movie. People from all over working together to create this wonderful milestone for people of color.
This is empowering, not just to African Americans but to everyone. Visual representation matters in today's society. This shows a bunch of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds coming together for a greater purpose. This movie made history and is a huge milestone for everyone. It shows that no matter where you are from anything is possible. We must not allow stereotypes to hold is back anymore.
This includes ALL races and ethnicities. We all should be striving to be more and help each other along. I truly feel empowered from the movie, and I recommend it to everyone to see. Children love it also. These are actors from all over and choose to work together. If they can do it why cant we in our everyday society? We must first start seeing each other as beautiful. Visual representation is the key. Lets no longer be cruel to each other!
