WSS defeats Dieterich in high-scoring game

EFFINGHAM (JG-TC) --  WSS, the number seven seeded team defeated Dieterich, the second seeded team, 18-10 in the National Trail Conference baseball tournament quarterfinals at Evergreen Hollow Park.

The Hatchets had two home runs in the game from Chase Thies and Isaac Kramer. Kramer was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Theis was 2-for-3 also with five RBIs. Gavin Bennett was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

WSS trailed Dieterich 8-3 after three innings before scoring nine straight runs to take a 16-7 lead, including seven runs in the fifth inning. 

The Hatchets are to play the winner of the Neoga vs. North Clay game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Hollow Park.


Cumberland boys and girls win inaugural LOVC meet

ARTHUR -- The Cumberland boys and girls earned first place in the inaugural Little Okaw Valley Conference meet Saturday at the Great Pumpkin Patch. The Pirates scored 34 in the boys' meet winning by 24 points over second place Hutsonville/Palestine. The Lady Pirates won with an 18.

The first place runner in the girls' division was Jasmyn Dittamore from Cumberland with a time of 18:48. Dittamore beat her teammate Victoria Ault, who was second by 2:16.5.

Logan Hall of Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond won the boys' race with a time of 15:29.6, which was 9. 1 seconds faster than second place Negus Bogard of Hutsonville-Palestine.

The the top eight earned all-conference honors in boys and the top six in the girls. The first six boys and first three girls earned medallions.

Earning all-conference honors in the girls' division were Dittamore, Ault, A-L-A-H's Makenna Green( (21:18), Cumberland's Breanne Edwards (23:04.2), Eve Brown (23:06.0) and Elise Hemmen (23:42.2.

Area runners earning all-LOVC honors on the boys' side were Logan Hall, Cumberland's Kort McClellan (16:11.4), A-L-A-H's Layton Hall (16:15.7), Cumberland's Blake Sutherland (16:36.2), Rayce Zike (17:25.8) and Michael Carpenter (17:26.2)

A-L-A-H will compete again on Tuesday at Sullivan. Cumberland’s next meet will be at their own invite on Saturday at Lake Land College.


Arthur Okaw Christian defeats Calvary Christian

ARTHUR -- Arthur Okaw Christian School hosted Calvary Christian Academy for an East Central Illinois Conference volleyball match on Monday. AOC defeated Calvary Christian Academy in 2 sets, 25-13, 30-28.

For Arthur Okaw Christian, Lillian Messmore led with 14 kills and a block. Also, Katie Brandt had 8 digs.

AOC plays in another East Central Illinois Conference matchup against Cornerstone at A-L-A-H High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Neoga defeats Sullivan

SULLIVAN --  Neoga defeated Sullivan 25-15, 25-18 in a non-conference match.

Neoga was led in kills and aces with seven and three respectively. Sullivan's Gewn Diepholz had nine digs.

Sullivan is to travel to Shelbyville on Thursday for a Central Illinois Conference contest.

Neoga is to travel to Mulberry Grove on Friday for a non-conference game.


Shelbyville sweeps Springfield Lanphier

SPRINGFIELD- Shelbyville girls’ tennis team defeated Springfield Lanphier 8-1.

Shelbyville is top play again on Tuesday when they host Vandalia at 4:30.
