EIU wins fifth straight baseball game

BELLEVILLE -- Eastern Illinois won its sixth straight baseball game Tuesday, 4-1 over Lindenwood University.

Matt Albers had a three-run home run in the fourth inning with one out on a 2-2 count. He was 1-for-3. Joseph Duncan was 3-for-5 with a RBI, while Dougie Parks was 2-for-5. The Panthers scored all four runs in the fourth inning.

Tyler Jones picked up the win allowing three hits in five innings and no runs. He had four strikeouts and no walks.

EIU improved to 5-2 and is travel to Atlanta to play Georgia State at 5 p.m. Friday.

EIU Men's Golf Opens Spring Season With 7th Place Finish

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Eastern Illinois men’s golf opened the 2018 spring season with a seventh place finish at the Alabama State Spring Golf Season Kickoff Tournament played at the 6,800 yard, Par 72 Lagoon Park Golf Club.

The Panthers opened Monday’s action sitting in fourth place as they shot a team score of 300. Two players Romeo Perez and Charlie Adare shot even par 72 in the opening round to both sit tied for 3rd.

On Tuesday the Panthers recorded a team score of 320 as they fell back to finish in seventh place. Perez carded a second round of 77 as he would finish the 36-hole event in a tie for 9th with a two-day total of 149.

Adare shot a round of 82 on Tuesday as he dropped to a tie for 24th with a total of 154. Teammate Marcello Verdolin was also tied for 24th after shooting rounds of 75 and 79.

Alex Gowin and Sebastian Olrog rounded out the EIU golfers. Gowin was 41st with a two-round total of 165. Olrog was 43rd with a two-round score of 167.

Rovonta Young of Alabama A&M was the individual medalist at the event shooting a 2-under score of 142. Host Alabama State was the team champion.
