CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Kennys Vargas homered and had two hits, driving in three as the Rochester Red Wings defeated the Charlotte Knights 6-3 on Monday.
Charlotte had runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth, but Jose Rondon struck out to end the game.
Trailing 1-0 in the first, Charlotte tied it up when Casey Gillaspie drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Daniel Palka.
After the teams traded runs in the third, the Red Wings took the lead in the sixth inning when Vargas hit a solo home run.
The Red Wings later added two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth. In the seventh, Taylor Featherston scored on an error, while Bobby Wilson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Brock Stassi in the ninth.
Tyler Duffey (2-1) got the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Charlotte starter Dylan Covey (1-1) took the loss in the International League game.
Rochester took advantage of some erratic Charlotte pitching, drawing a season-high 11 walks in its victory.
