Casey-Westfield opens LIC play with convincing win

CASEY-- Three Casey-Westfield boys' baskeetball players finished in double digits as the Warriors rolled to a 69-35 Little Illini Conference opening win over Red Hill Tuesday.

Luke Richards, Logan Hawker and Kyle Carver finsihed with 18, 17 and 13 points respectively for Casey, who shot 61 percent from the field. Richards had a double-double with 11 rebounds, while Jarod Brandenburg had six assists for the 11-3 team.

Casey is to travel to Paris for another conference game Friday

WSS comes back for win

WINDSOR—The WSS girls’ basketball team out-scored National Trail Conference foe Browntown/St. Elmo 14-8 Tuesday to pull off a 45-42 victory in the fourth quarter.

The Hatchets jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead, but trailed 21-20 at halftime. BSE added to its lead in the third quarter to make it 34-31 going into the final period. Megan Schlechte scored six of her twelve points for WSS in the last quarter to lead the Hatchets to the win.

Hannah Hayes tied her season high of 17 points to lead the team scoring.

WSS improves to 8-8 overall, 2-3 in the conference, and travels to Okaw Valley for a non-conference game Thursday.

Arcola loses

ARCOLA—Villa Grove/Heritage defeated Arcola 54-27 Tuesday in a Little Okaw Valley Conference non-division game.

Arcola fell behind 15-4 in the first quarter, trailed 27-11 at the half and was down 48-17 going into the final period. The Lady Riders out-scored VGH 10-6 in the fourth quarter.

EllaHopkins led the Lady Riders with 11 points.

Arcola falls to 4-11 and travels to Martinsville for another non-division game Thursday.
