Knights Classic Holiday Tournament

ARTHUR — In the championship game of the Knights Classis Holiday Tournament, host Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond fell to Decatur St. Teresa 65-61 Saturday.

Decatur pulled ahead 13-7 in the first quarter and led 32-23 at the half. The Knights came back with a 19-13 third quarter cutting the lead down to 45-42, but St. Teresa held on for the win.

Three A-L-A-H players scored in double digits: Hannah Wallen led the Knights with 16 points, Marissa Herschberger added 15 and Janette Comstock got 12 points.

The game featured 17 three-pointers, 11 by the Knights with Herschberger sinking five while Kyla Carson and Wallen each hit three.

A-L-A-H is 8-7 and travels to Tuscola for a non-conference game Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.

WSS takes fourth place

ARTHUR — Oakwood defeated Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 46-17 in the third-place game of the tournament Saturday.

Megan Schlechte led the Hatchets with eight points.

WSS falls to 7-8 and hosts Brownstown/St. Elmo for a National Trail Conference game Tuesday.

Shelbyville beats Cumberland for fifth

ARTHUR — Shelbyville won fifth place in the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament defeating Cumberland 43-30 Saturday.

Three Lady Rams broke into double figures: Carson Beyers and Holly Metzger led the team with 12 points each and Rheannah Donald added 11 points.

Josie Brown led the Lady Pirates with nine points.

Cumberland is now 2-14 and travels to Robinson for a non-conference game Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.

Shelbyville improves to 4-12 and plays at Effingham St. Anthony on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.

A-L-A-H JV places eighth

ARTHUR — Chrisman defeated the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond junior varsity team 23-10 Friday to take seventh place in the tournament.

A-L-A-H stayed with Chrisman in the first quarter which ended with the score tied at 4-4 and only trailed 10-8 at halftime, but Chrisman out-scored the Knights 10-2 to take a 20-10 lead in the third period and got the win.

Jolynn Barbee led A-L-A-H with four points.

All-tournament team announced

ARTHUR — Three area girls were selected to the Knight Classic Holiday Tournament All-Tourney Team.

WSS’s Megan Schlechte and Hannah Wallen and Marissa Herschberger from Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond were among the members of this year’s team.

Selected as most valuable player was Kaitlyn Young from Oakwood.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tri-County loses

OAKLAND—Salt Fork defeated Tri-County 69-40 Friday in a non-conference boys’ basketball game.

Cody Richardson led the Titans with 11 points and Donavon Smith scored a season-high 10 points.

Tri-County falls to 3-9 and hosts Chrisman at Shiloh on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.
