Shelbyville loses winning streak
VANDALIA (JG-TC) — Shelbyville boys’ basketball lost, 66-57, for the first time this season when they played Flora in the Vandalia Holiday Tournament on Thursday.
For Shelbyville, Malcolm Miller lead with 18 individual points, Turner Pullen lead with 15 points and Kade Kull lead with 16 points for the game.
Shelbyville is now 11-1 for the season and have lost its shot at first place. So, the Rams will take on Vandalia for third place on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Okaw Valley beats Arcola for third place
DIETERICH—Okaw Valley defeated Arcola 55-40 in the third place game of the Dieterich Holiday Tournament on Thursday.
Cole Nichols led the Timberwolves with 15 points. Jared Bunfill and Austin Hill also broke into double figures with 13 and 10, respectively.
Two Purple Riders set season high scoring marks: Rick Vaughn led Arcola with 13 points while Alec Davila added 10.
Okaw Valley improves to 5-9 and travels to Cumberland for a Little Okaw Valley Conference non-division contest Friday, Jan. 5.
Arcola is 3-8 and visits Arthur Okaw Christian for a non-conference game Thursday.
AOC defeats Portage Christian
ARTHUR— Arthur Okaw Christian boys’ basketball defeated Portage Christian School 76-50 in the 13th Annual Arthur Okaw Christian Holiday Classic.
For Arthur Okaw Christian, Oliver Binion lead with 11 total points, and Ian Lowry also lead with 16 total points.
AOC is now 6-3 for the season and will continue in the tournament on Friday.
A-L-A-H JV falls to Galilean Christian Academy
ARTHUR— Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond JV boys’ basketball team fell to Galilean Christian Academy 64-24 on Thursday in the 13th Annual Okaw Christian Holiday Classic.
A-L-A-H JV will continue in the tournament on Friday.
Neoga loses first tourney game
MONTICELLO—Paxton-Buckley-Loda defeated Neoga 57-46 in its first appearance at this year’s Monticello Hoopla Holiday Tournament.
The Indians took a 7-4 lead in the first quarter, but Paxton out-scored Neoga 19-9 in the second quarter to lead 23-16 at half and widened the margin to 43-29 in the third period. While Neoga out-scored its opponent 17-14 in the final stanza, Paxton-Buckley-Loda picked up the win.
Reese Johnson led the Indians with a season high 16 points and five assists. Clayton Butler grabbed seven rebounds and got three steals.
Neoga falls to 4-4 and plays Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley at 11:30 a.m. Friday as the tournament continues.
Milller nets 31 as Shelbyville rolls
VANDALIA --Shelbyville's Malcom Miller scored 31 points as the Rams downed the Vandalia Junior Varsity 74-33 Wednesday in the Vandalia Holiday Tournament.
Colten Reed had 12 points and Turner Pullen was also in double digits for Shelbyville.
Second half hurts Casey
TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Casey-Westfield trailed Terre Haute North just 31-29 at the half, but were outscored 34-22 in the second half as the Warriors lost 65-51 Wednesday.
Luke Richards led Casey with 16 points, while Logan Hawker had 10.
The loss snapped the Warriors four-game winning streak.
Casey-Westfield gets second place
DIETERICH—North Clay claimed the Dieterich Holiday Tournament championship by defeating Casey-Westfield 57-31.
Two Lady Warriors scored in double digits: Myriah Warner led the team with 11 points and JaeLynn Riggleman sank 10 points.
Casey-Westfield is now 11-5 overall and hosts Marshall for a Little Illini Conference game Tuesday. The Lady Warriors have a 2-0 conference record so far.
Arcola takes seventh place
DIETERICH—Arcola defeated South Central 42-15 in the seventh place game at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Riders held South Central scoreless in the first quarter taking a 15-0 lead and was up 22-3 at halftime. South Central outscored Arcola 10-8 in the third period, but a 12-2 Arcola fourth quarter cemented the win.
Gabby Beccera and KayLee Hohlbauch each scored eight points to lead the Lady Riders.
Arcola improves to 4-10 and hosts Villa Grove/Heritage for a Little Okaw Valley Conference non-division game Tuesday.
Dieterich names all-tournament team
DIETERICH— Dieterich wrapped up its 2017 Holiday Girls' Tournament and named its All-Tournament Team on Thursday.
The MVP of the tournament was Abby Frohning of Newton. Other area players that were selected for the team were Myriah Warner and Mackenzie Morgan of Casey-Westfield, and Kalyee Hohlbauch of Arcola.
Casey-Westfield finished in 2nd place for the tournament, and Arcola finished in 7th place overall.
AOC defeats Wabash Valley Homeschool
ARTHUR— Arthur Okaw Christian girls’ basketball defeated Wabash Valley Homeschool 48-20 in the 13th Annual Arthur Okaw Christian Holiday Classic on Thursday.
For Arthur Okaw Christian, Lillian Messmore lead with 14 individual points and Savanna Spitz lead with 11 total points for the game.
AOC will continue in the tournament on Friday.
Neoga falls to PBL
MONTICELLO— Neoga girls’ basketball was defeated, 67-43, by Paxton-Buckley-Loda in the Monticello Holiday Tournament on Thursday.
For Neoga, Blair Banning lead the team with 12 individual points.
Neoga is now 8-7 for the season and will continue in the tournament on Friday.
Sullivan falls to Altamont
MATTOON -- Sullivan led Altamont in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament Wednesday 28-22 at the half and 40-34 heading into the final quarter when they were outscored 18-10 in a 52-50 loss.
Esther Miller and Chloe Riley led the Lady Redskins with 19 and 10 points respectively.
