Charleston girls basketball player Shae Littleford was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 3A/4A All-State team. Littleford, a guard, earned a spot on the third team and was only one of three freshmen named to any of the fourth teams.
Littleford averaged a team-high 19.5 points, 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game. Littleford helped lead Charleston to a 25-3 record and the program's first appearance in the Sweet 16. The 25 wins ties for the most in the program's history.
Charleston senior guard Paige Swango was named to the IBCA Special Mention. Swango averaged 17.3 points per game and set the single-season record for 3-pointers in a season for Charleston with 95 three's.
Charleston, Mattoon compete at Apollo Indoor meet
MOUNT ZION — Both the Charleston and Mattoon track and field teams had a successful day at the Apollo Indoor meet on Saturday.
For the Charleston girls, Sharifa Hurtault won the 60-meter dash in 8.33 seconds and then won the 200-meter dash in 28.72. She picked up her third win of the day with a distance of 15-10 in the long jump. Megan Garrett had two wins on the day. The first was the 800-meter run when she crossed first in 2:25.68. Then she won the 1,600-meter run in 5:28.15. Julia Griffin won the 3,200-meter run in 12:46.01. Sarah Flight won the high jump after clearing 5-6.
For the Mattoon girls, Summerlyn Smith won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.76. Mattoon's 4x200 relay team of Amiyah Johnson, Smith, Anna VanHyfte and Jo Hite won the race in 1:52.95. Hite won the triple jump with a distance of 32-10.
Johnson was second in the 60-meter dash in 8.37. Mattoon's 4x800 team of Collings, Mariah Ball, Kylie Haacke and Mickenze Schofield finished in second in 10:26.60. Ball was second in the high jump after clearing 5-2.
Collings was third in the 1,600-meter run in 5:51.70. Amari Brown was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 11.61. Smith was third in the triple jump at 31-3.
For the Charleston boys, Kysean Green won the 200-meter dash in 24.61. Nick Oakley won the 800-meter run in 1:58.05. Austin Ames won the 3,200-meter run in 10:23.86. The Charleston 4x400 relay team of Dayton Black, Blake Garrett, Oakley and Green won in 3:46.06. Black won the pole vault after clearing 13-7.
Green was third in the 60-meter dash in 7.73. Lance Niemerg was third in the 1,600-meter run in 5:06.31.
For the Mattoon boys, Jacob Weder won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.95. Mattoon's 4x200 relay team of Elmon Taylor, Weder, Jack Pilson and Michael Brown won in 1:43.02. Caden Price won the triple jump with a distance of 36-7 1/2.
Taylor was second in the 200-meter dash in 25.35. Mitchell Kremer was second in the 800-meter run in 2:01.97. Mattoon's 4x800 relay team of Garrett Jones, Tyler Warner, Chase Monroe and Kremer were second in 9:04.72. Jed Eaton was third in the pole vault after clearing 11-7. Price was third in the long jump at 19-3. Ethan Grasl was third in the triple jump at 35-9. Payton Smith was third in the shot put with a distance of 44-4.
