Mattoon wraps up regular season with a loss

MT. ZION— Mattoon girls’ basketball ended its regular season in a non-conference game with a tight loss of 51-50 against Mt. Zion on Thursday.

For the Greenwave, Bella Coffey had 18 points, Ashlyn MacDonald had 16 points and Avery Risinger had 11 points.

Mattoon is 10-18 and will play in Regionals at Charleston starting on Wednesday against Mahomet-Seymour.

The Mattoon girls’ basketball JV team wrapped up its season with a 60-28 win against Mt. Zion on Thursday.

For the Greenwave, Anna Prior had 18 points.

The Mattoon JV is now finished for the season.


Charleston Boys’ Swimming earn fourth place

STANFORD— Charleston boys’ swimming took fourth place at the 2018 Olympia High School Boys’ Prairie Conference Invitational on Saturday. Pontiac won the meet. 

Charleston’s Coach, Brian Bower, presented the medals at the end of the meet, and got to do so to some of his swimmers. For the Trojans, Jonathon Phillips was first and Conference Champion in 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Breaststroke. Josh Hoh was second in 100 Yard Back and third in 50 Yard Free. Finn O’Neal was fourth in 50 Yard Free and fourth in 100 Yard Free. Josh Tressler was sixth in 200 Yard Free. Also the Relay team of Aly, Hoh, O’Neal and Phillips received second in both their 200 Yard Medley Relay and 200 Yard Free Relay.

Charleston boys’ will be swimming again at the IHSA Sectionals at Centennial on Saturday, February 17th.
