Charleston's Swango, Littleford and Mattoon's MacDonald named All-Apollo

Charleston's Paige Swango tied for the most votes during the Apollo girls basketball All-Conference meeting with Effingham's Carsyn Fearday. Charleston freshman Shae Littleford was also named to the All-Conference team along with Mattoon's Ashlyn MacDonald.

Swango and Littleford helped lead Charleston to a 10-2 Apollo record. Swango averaged 17.9 points per game and hit 83 3-pointers, which is a single-season record at Charleston. Littleford, the only freshman named to the team, averaged 19.2 points per game and 3.9 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

MacDonald led Mattoon with 15.0 points per game.

Charleston senior Hope Griffin and Mattoon senior Bella Coffey both received votes.


Mattoon boys fall to Central A&M

TEUTOPOLIS — The Mattoon boys basketball team stuck with Central A&M, but couldn't get enough stops in the first half and the fourth quarter to pull out the win as Central A&M won 74-66 on Saturday at the Teutopolis Shootout.

Mattoon (9-13) trailed 21-19 after one quarter and was down 41-36 going into halftime. Mattoon held Central A&M to 9 points and scored 16 to take a 52-50 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Central A&M scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to Mattoon's 14 to pull out the 74-66 win.

Jacob Spitz hit four 3-pointers for Mattoon and finished with 20 points. Jadyn Princko hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points. DeAndre Thomas scored 14 points, and Jaydon Noe had 12 points for the Green Wave in the loss.

Mattoon plays at Teutopolis at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
