ROBINSON — Both the Lake Land men's and women's basketball teams picked up their 11th overall win on Saturday.
The Lake Land women's basketball team defeated Lincoln Trail 68-36 to improve to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
The Lake Land men's basketball team defeated Lincoln Trail 80-68 to improve to 11-2 overall, and the Lakers stayed at the top of the GRAC standings with a 5-0 record.
The Lake Land women jumped out to a 19-8 lead on Lincoln Trail and were up 38-20 going into halftime. Then Lake Land held Lincoln Trail to only 16 points in the second half.
"I thought we really followed our game plan well," Lake Land coach Dave Johnson said. "There were things I wanted us to do in our man-to-man (defense), and I thought we executed it really well. It's just a good performance and we will continue to build on it."
Avery Jackson led Lake Land with 19 points and eight assists. Koty Crowder hit six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points and three steals. Jamie Sandschafer had 11 points, and Jaycie Roy had 8 points and 15 rebounds. Zyah Burnett had five rebounds.
The Lake Land men had a 32-28 halftime lead and then scored 48 points in the second half to pull away for an 80-68 win.
Josh Jefferson led Lake Land with 17 points and four steals. He was 9-of-9 at the free-throw line. Dazon Farris had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Amel Kuljuhovic had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He also had three blocks. Kevin Williams had 8 points and seven rebounds, and Kasey Elam had 8 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Josh Robinson had 8 points and four assists.
The two teams are back in action on Wednesday when Lake Land hosts Shawnee Community College. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., and the men's game starts at 7:30 p.m.
