RIVER FOREST — The Lake Land women's basketball team used a strong first quarter to take a 26-13 lead over Moraine Valley Community College in the Triton College Classic Saturday and went on to win 90-82.

"The last three games we have played, we have played really well in the first quarter," said Lake Land coach Dave Johnson. "Moraine Valley is a very strong team and they score well. We knew we had to get off to a good start and we did that. We played a really strong fourth quarter also."

Charleston graduate Dakota Crowder was one of three Lady Lakers in double digits as she led the way with 21 points, going 5-of-8 from beyond the three-point line. Neoga graduate Jaycie Roy had a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Mattoon graduate Avery Jackson was also in double figures with 16 points and led the team in assists with five.

"Dakota Crowder was huge for us," said Johnson. "Jaycie Roy played really well. She struggled a little Friday, but bounced right back and played her best game of the season Saturday and gave us a huge lift."

Lake Land went 2-0 in the classic, beating Triton College 82-69 last Friday.

"It was good for us to get good games out of this," said Johnson. "I thought for the most part in the 12 quarters, we played 10 good quarters during the week. If we continue to play that way, I think we will be okay."

The Lady Lakers, 3-1, are to play at Ina against Rend Lake Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
