PEORIA -- Arcola senior Nick Vaughn made 7-of-15 in the boys' basketball Country Financial Three-Point Class 1A state preliminaries at Carver Arena. He finished in a five-way tie for 13th place out of 32 shooters.
Vaughn was one of four seniors shooting in the first group of eight out of four groups. He was the fourth person to shoot. He tied with Peyton Harre of Okawville, Dustin Shawback of Lowpoint-Washburn, Jacob Guge of Westminister Christian and Brady Kreiter of Brimfield.
One shooter, Bradon Annegers of West Central made 11, while three others made 10 to advance to the Class 1A finals set for approximately 12:45 p.m. Friday.
Vaughn was the fourth person from Arcola to participate in the event joining Kollin Seaman, who was 28th in 2014 and 18th in 2016 when he made five and seven respectively. Kyle Downs was fifth in 2007 with 11 and Matt Venhaus was in the event in 1996.
Neoga's Mitchell Cornell, who is believed to be the first-ever from Neoga in the event, also shot in the first group. He was the fifth person and made 2-of-15, good for 31st place in the state.
