SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Haleigh Knapp took first place in the women’s high jump for the EIU track team with a 1.74-meter effort at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite on Friday. Knapp was named OVC co-female athlete of the week for the second time after setting a new school record of 1.84 m at the Illinois Classic last week.
Shirley Jones was 11th in the 200-meter dash in 24.94 seconds and Nyjah Lane finished 47th in 25.97.
Maria Baldwin was 12th in the 5000-meter run in 17:19.03.
For the men, Chrisford Stevens finished 12th in the men’s triple jump with a 13.87 m leap. In the weight throw, Zachary Phillips was 10th with a 16.21 m effort, Nicholas Phillips finished 12th at 16.10 m and Colton Yeakley was 18th at 14.72 m. Brandon Lane took 15th place in the 200 meter with a time of 21.95, Tadiwanashe Mhonde took 21st in 22.19, Davion McManis was 28th in 22.57 and Devente Smith took 34th in 22.79.
McManis, Lane, Mhonde and Smith each qualified for Saturday’s 60 m dash finals with times of 6.98 seconds, 6.99, 7.00 and 7.01, respectively. Cedric Johnson qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.62 effort.
In the women’s 60-meter dash, Lane qualified in 7.68 seconds while Darneisha Spann and Pedra Hicks qualified in the 60 m hurdles in 8.67 and 8.95 seconds, respectively. Morgan Atchison didn’t qualify but put in a time of 9.86 seconds.
The Meyo Invite concludes Saturday.
