INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EIU) — Upon the completion of the first day of action at the House of Champions meet, the Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming teams earned a combined seven top-25 finishes to start the three-day event. The House of Champions will resume Saturday morning with the preliminary events as the finals will occur again Saturday night.
The quartet of Steve Fishman, Matt Jacobs, Nick Harkins, and Ivan Escott posted the top results for the Panthers on the night with their tenth-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:25.40). Finishing in the top 25 for the 200 free relay was the team of Brandon Robbins, Bryan McPherson, Tyler Parrish, and Ethan Wallace who touched the wall at 1:29.63. The EIU women found success in the 200 free as Lauren Oostman, Martee Grainger, Sarah Lohman and Danielle DiMatteo finished in the top 25, placing 15th with a time of 1:39.28.
Fishman, Jacobs, Escott, and Scott House finished in the top 25 for the EIU men in the 400 medley relay as the group placed 13th in the event at 3:27.68. Emily Stroud, Gloria Gonzales, Karleen Gernady, and Caro Lamarque followed suit as the quartet finished 21st at 4:10.05.
Oostman earned the top individual finish for the Panthers on the night as she earned a time of 2:09.99 in the women's 200 individual medley. House was the top individual finisher for the men as he earned a time of 21.64 placing 23rd in the 50 free.
