CHARLESTON (EIU) — Eastern Illinois senior high jumper Haleigh Knapp has qualified for this year's NCAA Indoor Track National Championships, which will take place on March 9-10 in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Knapp qualified 15th in the field as the top 16 athletes in each event advance to the National Championships. She becomes just the second EIU women's track and field athlete to ever qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships joining Jade Riebold who qualifying twice in the pole vault.
Knapp cleared a season-best height of 6 feet, 1/2 inch during the season, with her second-best jump of 6 feet even helping clinch a spot in the championships. She holds the school record for the high jump and last weekend won her fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference Indoor High Jump title. Knapp was also named the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Year.
Knapp will compete next Friday, March 9 in the women's high jump with a 6 p.m. start time.
