MATTOON — The Lake Land volleyball team recently announced a number of awards.

Sophomore middle hitter and freshman setter Alexandra Beckers were both named to the 2017 NJCAA Region 24 Division I All-Region team. Ambrose, a Shelbyville graduate, led the Lady Lakers with 310 kills and had a .300 hitting percentage. She tied for the team lead with 114 total blocks. Beckers led Lake Land with 701 assists, averaging 5.76 assists per set, and also had a team-high 374 digs. She finished with 89 kills, 13 aces and 46 total blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Kristy Burford, an Okaw Valley graduated, received the 2017 Great Rivers Athletic Conference Volleyball Sportsmanship award. Burford was third on the team with 186 kills and had 130 digs, 70 total blocks and 12 aces.

Ambrose, Beckers and freshman outside hitter Brooklyn Elsas all received 2017 All-GRAC honors. Elsas was second on the team with 251 kills. She also had 247 digs, 43 blocks and a team-high 15 aces.

Lake Land finished the season with a 15-24 record and were 4-6 in the GRAC.
