BRENTWOOD, Tenn.  (EIU)– Eastern Illinois senior Carrie Caplin was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers women’s soccer team open the 2017 season with a 1-0-1 record.

Caplin helped the Panthers post a shutout victory over IUPUI on Friday night in the season opener as the Panthers picked up the 2-0 win.  It was the first season opening win for the program since the 2010 season. In the match Caplin had an assist on the Panthers second goal of the match.

On Sunday Caplin helped the Panthers play to a 1-1 draw at Indiana State.  She led a defensive unit that allowed only two shots on goal for the entire match.

EIU returns to action this weekend hosting Green Bay on Friday in the home opener at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Field.  EIU then hosts Milwaukee on Sunday at 12 p.m.
