CHARLESTON (EIU) – Tickets are on sale for this year's Eastern Illinois Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet set to take place on October 7.   The luncheon is to take place at noon in the Grand Ball Room of the MLK Union on campus.  

Tickets for the luncheon are $20 per person and can be purchased by phone by calling the EIU Ticket office at 217-581-2106 and must be purchased by October 4 at noon. 

The Hall of Fame football game is to be  at 6 pm Oct. 7 against Tennessee Tech.  Tickets for the football game are $20 per person.

Individuals wishing to attend both the luncheon and football game may purchase a combination package at a discounted rate of $32 per person.

Discounted tickets for children (ages 4-11) for both the football game and luncheon are also available. Game tickets are $5 per child, while luncheon tickets are $10 per person.

All orders placed now through October 4 are to be available for pick-up at the banquet or football game.

The 2017 EIU Athletic Hall of Fame Class includes Zye Boey (Track), Cara LeMaster Trufant (Soccer), J.R. Taylor (Football), Dave Kidwell (Administrator) and Joe Strohm (Friend of Athletics).

In addition to the Hall of Fame Banquet and football game, EIU volleyball is to play at home tat 2 pm against UT Martin. Admission to the volleyball match is free.   EIU women’s soccer is at home on Friday afternoon against Jacksonville State at 3 p.m. followed by volleyball in Lantz Arena at 7 p.m.  The women’s soccer team wraps up the weekend of Hall of Fame action at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission to volleyball and soccer is free. 

Stolfa, Olson Win OVC Soccer Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A pair of Eastern Illinois women’s soccer players collected Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Awards on Tuesday after the Panthers increased their current win streak to three matches with wins over Fort Wayne and Western Illinois.  Kate Olson was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week while Kayla Stolfa was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week.

Olson scored two goals on the weekend and both proved to be the game winners as Eastern Illinois picked up two wins over the weekend.  On Friday Olson scored the golden goal against Fort Wayne helping the Panthers collect the 2-1 win.  On Sunday she netted what proved to be the game winner as she scored in the 53rd minute of EIU’s 2-1 win over Western Illinois.  Olson is currently tied for seventh in the OVC in scoring with eight points (3 goals, 2 assists).

Stolfa was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after winning the award last week for a four assist match against Chicago State.  This past weekend Stolfa logged 187 minutes on the field and helped EIU pick up wins over Fort Wayne and Western Illinois.  In Friday’s double overtime win she added an assist moving her season total to five.  The junior is currently first in the OVC in assists.

EIU returns to action this weekend with a non-conference match on Friday at Marian (Ind.) University.

Chang Leads EIU Women's Golf At NKU Classic

BATAVIA, Ohio – Eastern Illinois women’s golf opened the 2017 fall season battling the remnants of Hurricane Irma as rain slowed down play on the final day of the Northern Kentucky Fall Classic played at Elks Run Golf Club. EIU finished in 13th place in the event that featured a 45 minute delay due to heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers had moved up to 12th during the second round Monday afternoon shooting their best 18-hole team total of the tournament with a round of 327.  EIU fell off the pace on Tuesday shooting 341 for a 54-hole total of 1006.

EIU was led in the tournament by Daphne Chang, a transfer from King University in Tennessee. Chang opened tournament play with a round of 86 but closed Monday’s 18 holes with a 76 before rounding out action on Tuesday with a round of 79. Chang ended the tournament in a tie for 37th and a 54-hole total of 241.

Senior Anne Bahr finished tied for 53rd shooting a 54-hole total of 249.  Her best round came on Monday afternoon with a round of 82.  Hannah Magda was tied for 64th with a 54-hole total of 256.

Sara Guetersloh and Katlyn Hasprey rounded out the final EIU scored golfers.  Guetersloh was 75th with a score of 269. Hasprey was 76th with a total of 271. McKenzie O’Brien competed as an individual for EIU and was 77th with a score total of 273.

UNC Asheville won the team title while Ellie Cronin of Dayton was the individual medalist.

EIU returns to action on October 2-3 at the F&M Bank Austin Peay State University Intercollegiate.
