TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  — The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming units returned to action Saturday with the EIU women squared off against St. Louis, Indiana State and Maryville, while the men battled against St. Louis and Maryville.

The Panther men finished in second with 124 points, while the Eastern women finished third with a score of 52.

Both squads finished recording ten combined top finishes against Maryville on the night.

The women's trio of Emily Stroud, Caro Lamarque and Martee Grainger kicked off the night placing higher then Maryville in the 3x100 backstroke relay, touching the wall at 3:09.37. The quartet of Gloria Gonzales, Lamarque, Kailey Adcock and Grainger touched the wall at 4:59.82, placing higher then Maryville. In the 100 medley relay, the quartet of Renae Johnson, Rachel Manderscheid, Karleen Gernady, and Grainger finished fourth, touching the wall at 52.82. In the same event, the team of Stroud, Lamarque, Sarah Lohman, and Julia Martin finished higher then Maryville with their time of 53.81. In the 400 intermediate medley, the quartet of Johnson, Gernady, Lamarque, and Manderscheid touched the wall at 4:26.04, gaining a top time against Maryville.

The men followed suit, placing higher then Maryville in the 3x100 backstroke relay when Race Archibald, Patrick Wood, and Bryan McPherson touched the wall at 2.55.88. The quartet of Tyler Parrish, McPherson, Ethan Wallace, and Austin Kueck touched the wall at 4:20.28.

The men placed top two in several events, including the 3x100 breaststroke relay, 800 freestyle relay, 100 medley, 400 intermediate medley and 400 freestyle relay. The trio of Brandon Robbins, Steve Fishman, and Matt Jacobs finished second in the 3x100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:55.90. The quartet of Nick Harkins, Scott House, Ivan Escott, and Christopher Dixon finished second in the 800 freestyle relay with their time of 7.11.58. The team of House, Fishman, Jacobs, and Escott touched the wall second with their time of 44.97 in the 100 medley relay. In the 400 intermediate medley, the team of Fishman, Harkins, Escott, and Robbins earned a top-two time, touching the wall at 3:39.81. The quartet of House, Jacobs, Wallace, and Parish finished second with their time of 3:16.20 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Panthers return to action on January 13, as the Panthers are to travel to Evansville.
