DECATUR — It would prove to be a battle of quarterbacks as undefeated LSA hosted Arcola Friday night.
It was LSA's Michael Fiala facing Arcola's Connor Strader.
And each would dominate the game in their own right. Fiala through the air, Strader on the ground.
Ultimately it was the Purple Riders defense that froze Fiala in the second half and the Lions offense, as Arcola won 20-14.
LSA (5-1, 2-1) burst the game open in the first quarter scoring two quick touchdowns to take the lead 14-0.
It looked like the Lions were going to go up 21-0 until Fiala threw an end zone interception caught my Arcola's Mario Cortez.
That would prove to be the turning point as the Lions wouldn't reach the end zone for the rest of the game.
Arcola (4-2, 2-1) changed gears and abandoned the pass nearly altogether, instead focusing on the running game of Strader and Austin Hopkins.
Strader would finish with 131 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Arcola defense was rock solid as Cortez would grab a second interception on LSA's final play of the game to seal the win for the Purple Riders.
