TOLEDO — Cumberland scored all its points in the first half as the Pirates defeated Oblong 41-6 Friday in a Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast division game at their homecoming.

Tyson Magee scored three touchdowns on passes from Gabe Hatfill, 30-yards, 27-yards and 3-yards. Zach Wolke also received a 15-yard pass from Hatfill for a TD.

Cumberland’s other two touchdowns were on a 2-yard run by Myles Gerhardt and a 40-yard run by Coltin Scott.

Hatfill completed eight of 13 passes for 145 yards. Scott led rushers with 99 yards on nine carries.

In addition to Magee’s three passes for 60 yards, Connor Butler caught two passes for 57 yards.

Dalton Antrim led the Pirates’ defense with four tackles and 11 assists.

Cumberland improves to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the conference, and travels to Oakland to face Tri-County in another division contest Friday.

Shelbyville wins big

MACON — Shelbyville defeated Macon Meridian 44-7 Friday in a Central Illinois Conference game.

Turner Pullen was 10-of-20 for 153 yards and threw four touchdowns (20, 6, 8 and 30 yards) with Brett Spears catching three passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams. Cade Helton blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to start the scoring for the number eight team in Class 1A. Tylr Gottfriedt led the defense with 6.5 tackles and had one of four tackles for a loss for the Rams. 

The Rams improve to 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference, and travel to Clinton for another conference game Friday.

Casey-Westfield falls

CASEY — Salem won its first game of the season Friday defeating Casey-Westfield 56-30 in the non-conference game.

The Warriors fall to 1-5 and travel to Red Hill for a Little Illini Conference game Friday.

Sullivan/Okaw Valley falls to Clinton

CLINTON — Sullivan/Okaw Valley traveled to Clinton and lost the Central Illinois Conference game 40-7. 

Luke Bowman had 14 carries for 46 yard and the lone Sullivan touchdown to lead the running game, while quarterback Luke Harlin was 12-of-28 for 111 yards with one interception

Sullivan/Okaw Valley, 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the CIC is to play at Moweaua against  Central A & M Friday in another conference contest. 

A-L-A-H blanks Sangamon Valley

NIANTIC-- Marcus Vanausdoll had 23 carries for 200 yards and scored the only touchdowns of the game on runs of 20 and seven yards as Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond blanked Sangamon Valley 19-0. The Knights improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Northwest Division.

The Knight led 7-0 at the half and 14-0 after three quarters. 

A-L-A-H is to travel to Arcola Friday for another LOVC NW Division game. 


AOC defeats University High

URBANA — Arthur Okaw Christian High School traveled to Urbana to play University High School on Friday. AOC defeated University High in two sets: 25-17, 25-21.

For Arthur Okaw Christian, Lillian Messmore scored 5 kills, Lindsey Mast had 9 digs, and Katie Brandt had 4 aces.

Arthur Okaw Conference plays at home Monday and Tuesday Next Week.


Halls place second and third for A-L-A-H

MONTICELLO — Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond’s Logan Hall won second place at the Monticello Invitational on Thursday in 17:16 and Layton Hall finished third at 17:31.

Monticello won both the boys’ and the girls’ meets. The A-L-A-H teams didn’t have enough runners in attendance to get a team score.

Makenna Greer put in an eighth-place 21:34 in the girls’ race for the Knights.

A-L-A-H hosts the Little Okaw Valley Conference meet Saturday at the Pumpkin Patch starting at 9 a.m.


Casey-Westfield Defeats Effingham

EFFINGHAM- Casey-Westfield/Martisnville Girls’ Tennis team topped Effingham 7-2.

Among those who won for the Lady Warriors in singles are: Elizabeth Eckerty, Eva Richardson, Addie Squires, Johanna Shafer and Gwendalyn Eckerty. For doubles: Richardson/Squires and Shafer/G. Eckerty.

Casey is to continue their season at the Little Illini Conference meet in Olney on Saturday.
