Shelbyville baseball defeats St. Teresa

SHELBYVILLE — Shelbyville baseball defeated Decatur St. Teresa 8-6 in a Central Illinois Conference on Friday.

For the Rams, Joel Bleskey hit two doubles and a home run. Quinn Martz hit a double and a home run. Payton Howell also hit a home run.

Shelbyville is 8-4 and will continue the season on Saturday at Okaw Valley.

Sullivan slides into eighth inning win

SULLIVAN — Sullivan defeated Central A&M 6-5 in a Central Illinois Conference game on Friday.

To the spectators, one might have thought that Sullivan was going to lose this game, but after remaining scoreless for six innings Sullivan jumped in and scored five runs in the seventh inning. The Redskins caused the game to go into an eighth inning and Sullivan scored another run to take the victory.

For the Redskins, Gavin Sullivan hit a double.

Sullivan will continue the season at Altamont on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Okaw Valley earns 10th straight win

CERRO GORDO — Okaw Valley remained undefeated by shutting out Cerro Gordo 15-0 in a Little Okaw Valley-Northwest division game on Friday.

For the Timberwolves, Hayden Francisco and Cody Drake each hit a double.

Okaw Valley is 10-0 for the season and 2-0 in the LOVC-NW. The Timberwolves will continue the season on Saturday by hosting Shelbyville JV and Varsity beginning at 10 a.m.

AOC wins

ARTHUR — The Arthur Okaw Christian baseball team defeated Judah Christian 9-3 on Friday.

Judah Christian scored a run in the top of the first inning before the Conquering Riders took the lead in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own. Two more runs for AOC in the third were enough for the win.

Trevor Beachy got the win allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out two batters in the first two innings.

Derrick Shetler doubled for the Conquering Riders who have a four-game winning streak going. AOC is to face Mt. Pulaski and Winchester on Saturday.

Cumberland wins in nine

OBLONG — Cumberland defeated Oblong 2-1 Friday in a Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast division game that was scoreless until the ninth inning.

The Pirates scored their two runs in the top of the second extra inning, and Oblong got its run in the bottom of the ninth.

Justin Brown picked up the win allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out seven in three innings of relief pitching. Brown also batted in one of the runs.

Alex Talley and Reid Mathenia scored the runs for the Pirates.

Martinsville loses to Dieterich

MARTINSVILLE — Martinsville took a hard fall of 20-1 to Dieterich in a non-conference game on Friday.

For the Bluestreaks, Tyler Wilson hit a double.

Martinsville will continue the season on Monday at home against Oblong.

Martinsville defeats Dieterich

MARTINSVILLE — Martinsville softball defeated Dieterich 4-1 in a non-conference game on Friday.

For the Lady Bluestreaks, Carly Zachary hit two doubles and a triple.

Martinsville will continue the season on Monday at home in a Little Okaw Valley-Southeast division game against Oblong.

Shelbyville shuts out St. Teresa

SHELBYVILLE — Shelbyville softball shut out Decatur St. Teresa 14-0 in a Central Illinois Conference Game on Friday.

For the Rams, Savannah Marty hit a double. Brianna Reed was 3-for-3 in batting with one run and five RBIs.

The Rams will continue the season on Monday at Central A&M.

Tri-County falls to Villa Grove

HUME — Tri-County softball lost to Villa Grove 10-2 in a Little Okaw Valley-Southeast division game on Friday.

For the Lady Titans, Cailynne Phillips was 1-for-1 in batting, with one run and one RBI.

Tri-County will continue the season on Monday at Shiloh High School against Heritage for another LOVC-SE game at 4:30 p.m.

Cumberland falls to Oblong

OBLONG — Cumberland softball lost to Oblong 7-4 in a Little Okaw Valley-Southeast division game on Friday.

For the Lady Pirates, Libby Dunaway hit a triple and Micaela Bradley hit a home run.

Cumberland is 8-6 for the season and 1-2 in the conference. The team will continue the season on Saturday at the Greenville Tournament.

Sullivan held to 2 hits in loss

SULLIVAN – The Sullivan softball team was held to two hits in a 10-0 loss to Central A&M on Friday. Sullivan is 5-5 on the season.

Avery Still and Gwen Diepholz each had a hit for Sullivan in the loss.

Shelbyville defeats Vandalia

VANDALIA — Shelbyville softball defeated Vandalia 4-3 in a non-conference game on Thursday.

For the Lady Rams, Hannah Kemp hit a double.

The Rams will continue the season on Monday at Central A&M.

A-L-A-H’s Hall wins two events at Monticello

MONTICELLO — Logan Hall won the 800-meter run in 2:01.73 and the 1600-meter in 4:41.22 for the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond track team Friday at the Monticello Boys Invitational. The meet was not scored.

Teammate Colin Budd finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:06.39.

Kobe Wells won the triple jump for A-L-A-H with a jump of 42 feet, 1 1/4 inches. Wells also finished the high jump in second place with a 6-4 leap since the winner at the same height took fewer jumps to clear it.

Jadon Nuzzo from Sullivan won the pole vault with a 12-0 effort.

Shelbyville’s Ryan Skowronski took second in the 1600 with a time of 4:48.81. Turner Pullen was second in the 110 hurdles with a 15.50 mark.

Logan Hall from A-L-A-H was second in the 3200 meter run at 10:47.58.

Arcola’s Mario Cortez was second in the triple jump at 40-6.

Sullivan places 16th

TOLONO — Sullivan girls track took 16th in the Tolono Unity Girls Invitational on Friday.

For the Lady Redskins, Emily White took third place in the high jump with a height of 4-10.

Sullivan girls will continue in the season on Tuesday by hosting the Tri-County track meet with Arcola, A-L-A-H, Central A&M, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Neoga, Pana, Shelbyville and WSS.

Cumberland boys track competes in Flora

FLORA — Cumberland boys track competed in the Flora Boys Track Invite on Thursday. While no places were given out, Cumberland would have placed fourth out of seven teams with 99 points. The teams the Pirates competed against were Newton, Richland County, Fairfield, Mt. Carmel, Flora and Woodlawn.

The Pirates will continue the season by hosting the Pirate Boys Track Invite on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Tri-County takes third in girls, fifth in boys

PARIS — The Tri-County girls track team took third place with 72 points in the Tiger Relays on Thursday and the boys finished in fifth place with a score of 49.

Effingham won the girls meet with 109.25 points and the boys meet with 159.

Neoga’s girls were sixth with 42.5 points and the boys took ninth with 16.5.

Katelyn Lang led the Lady Titans with three first-place finishes: the 100-meter dash in 12.68 seconds, the 200 in 25.98 and the discus with a throw of 108 feet.

Kaylenn Hunt won the triple jump for Tri-County with a 32-35 leap and took second in the high jump at 4-9. Julia Mickler took second in the 800-meter run in 2:47.30 and also in the 1600-meter run at 6:17.27.

Neoga’s Abbi Kepp won second place in the 100 meter low hurdles in 17.11.

For the boys, Tri-County’s Ramsey Hunt won the triple jump with a 42-8 jump. Max Cox won the discus with a throw of 125-5 for the Titans and took second place in the shot put with a 48-2 toss.

Zack Gresens took second for the Indians with a 37-35 effort.
