Sullivan defeats Arcola

ARCOLA— Sullivan baseball defeated Arcola 6-5 on Wednesday.

For the Purple Riders, Ian Hill was 1-for-2 in batting, with three RBIs.

For the Redskins, Ivan Garza was 2-for-3 in batting, with one run and two RBIs.

Arcola will continue the season by hosting Argenta-Oreana on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Sullivan will continue the season on Friday by hosting Central A&M at 4:30 p.m.

Neoga baseball defeats Oblong

NEOGA — Neoga baseball defeated Oblong 18-2 on Wednesday.

For the Indians, Evan Fritcher hit a home run.

Neoga will continue the season on Thursday at Cumberland.

Cumberland falls to Villa Grove/Heritage

BROADLANDS — Cumberland baseball lost to Villa Grove/Heritage in a tight game ending in a 6-5 score on Wednesday.

For the Pirates, Bryson Cutts and Alex Talley each hit a double.

Cumberland will play at Neoga at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

SOFTBALL

A-L-A-H sweeps Cerro Gordo/Bement

CERRO GORDO — A-L-A-H softball defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement 8-0 in a Little Okaw Valley-Northwest Division game on Wednesday.

For the Knights, Kirsten Corum hit two triples. Marissa Herschberger, Shelby Frederick, Jolynn Barbee and Mackenzie Brown each hit a triple. Taylor Powell hit a double and triple. Reagan Miller hit a double.

A-L-A-H will continue the season on Saturday at the Ramsey Tournament.

Cumberland falls to Villa Grove

BROADLANDS — Cumberland softball fell to Villa Grove 8-6 on Wednesday.

For Cumberland, Madison Hendrix hit a home run and Sadie Oakley hit two doubles.

The Lady Pirates are 7-5 for the season and 1-1 in the LOVC. Cumberland will continue in the season on Thursday against Neoga at Eastern Illinois University at 6 p.m.

Correction

In Tuesday's edition of the JG-TC, it was reported that Casey-Westfield softball will play at Robinson on Thursday. Casey-Westfield will actually play at home against Robinson on Thursday. The JG-TC regrets the error. 

TRACK

Arcola track takes first

ARCOLA — Arcola's boys and girls track teams hosted and defeated Windsor on Tuesday. Arcola took first in the boys division with 55 points, and WSS followed with 27 points. Arcola took first in the girls division with 75 points, and WSS followed with 25 points.

The Purple Riders took first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay, triple jump, shot put and discus throw.

The Hatchets boys team took first place in the 1600-meter run, 110-meter hurdles and long jump.

The Lady Riders took first place in the 800-meter run, 1600-meter run, 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, long jump, shot put and discus throw.

The Hatchets girls team took first place in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay.

Arcola’s boys team will continue the season on Friday by participating in and hosting the Monticello boys invite. The girls team will continue the season on Tuesday, April 17th at Sullivan against Tri-County.

The Hatchets will continue the season on Thursday at home against Altamont.

Sullivan takes second, fourth in track

ASSUMPTION — Sullivan's track team joined Warrensburg-Latham, Cerro Gordo and Central A&M at the Central A&M meet on Tuesday. Sullivan took fourth place in the boys division with 46 points and took second place in the girls division with 46 points.

For the Redskins, Jadon Nuzzo took first place in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet, 6 inches.

For the Lady Redskins, Laine Cameron took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time 18.28, Zoe Walton took first in the high jump with a height of 4-10 and Esther Miller took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 32-2 1/2.

Sullivan boys team will continue the season on Friday at the Monticello Invitational hosted by Arcola on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Sullivan girls team will continue the season on Friday at the Tolono Unity Invitational with Monticello on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Casey-Westfield, Cumberland, Okaw Valley track

TOLEDO — Cumberland track teams hosted Casey-Westfield, Marshall, Oblong and Okaw Valley on Tuesday. Casey-Westfield took first in the boys division with 145 points and fourth in the girls division with 67 points. Cumberland took third in the boys division with 97 points and first in the girls division with 163 points. Okaw Valley took fifth in the boys division with 52 points and fifth in the girls division with 30 points.

The Warriors will continue the season on Saturday at North Vigo (Indiana) starting at 10 a.m. CT.

The Lady Pirates will continue the season on Friday at the Girls Robinson Invite.

The Lady Timberwolves will continue the season on Tuesday at the Cumberland girls invitational.
