MATTOON (JG-TC)— The Lake Land softball team extended its winning streak to eight games by sweeping Thursday's Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader against Shawnee Community College 8-0 and 20-0. Both games finished in the fifth inning. Seven of Lake Land's past eight wins have come via a five-inning rule run.
Lake Land improved to 30-11 overall and 18-2 in the GRAC.
In the first game, Holly Marousek and Madison Bostick combined on the shutout. Marousek pitched the first four innings and struck out six batters. Madison Bostick struck out two batters in the final inning.
Allie Helton hit a double and drove in two runs, Hope Collier was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs, Addison Baele and Kendall Hastings each hit a double and drove in a run and Delanie Johnson had an RBI.
In the second game, Braylyn Burdick pitched the first two innings, Samantha Forrest struck out three in an inning, Sydney Rawlings struck out two in an inning and Madison Bostick struck out two in an inning.
Johnson was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs, Kassidy Evans was 1-for-1 with a solo home run, Molly McElwee was 4-for-4 with a triple, double, two runs and four RBIs, Alina Lance was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs and three RBIs, Baele was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and four RBIs, Helton was hit a double and drove in a run, Collier was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Hastings drove in a run.
Lake Land baseball falls to Wabash Valley
The Lake Land baseball team dropped a 16-3 game at Wabash Valley on Thursday. Lake Land falls to 9-15 overall and 4-4 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
