CHARLESTON -- Charleston Carnegie Public Library has announced upcoming events for the month of January.

The Charleston Carnegie Public Library is excited to announce to the launch of a brand new collection -- the Professional Accessories Library (PAL). PAL is a collection of ties and handbags with the purpose of helping our patrons prepare for interviews or similar professional events.

Watch for workshops in the spring focused on varying aspects of job hunting, including finding applications, filling them out, and interviewing.

PAL can be found by the Information Desk on the fourth floor of the library, and items will check out for 14 days. We are also accepting donations of professional accessories for the collection, preferably in like-new condition.

Iceland…From black sand beaches to waterfalls, there is so much to experience on this volcanically and geologically active island of Iceland. Come and enjoy photos and tales of churches, continental shelves, glaciers, northern lights, Icelandic horses, and the geothermal life. Of course there’ll be a bit about cuisine and farming in a place where only lichen, moss and scrub grass grow; and always, at the periphery of one’s vision – Icelandic fairies.

Have you set some financial goals but feel a little overwhelmed with where to start? Join us for a Financial Workshop! Dave Price, a financial planner from Effingham, will help you take a deep breath and feel empowered to take control in 2019! This informative workshop will cover topics such as: Creating a “zero based” budget, ideas for getting out of debt. How am I going to retire or pay for college costs? Learn how to add some financial tools to your “toolbox” to help “build” your financial house.

-- Did Dinosaurs Live in Illinois?, Thursday, Jan. 24, 6 p.m., Rotary Room B

Join Katie Lewandowski, PH.D. as she talks about why there are no dinosaur fossils in Illinois. She will talk about what sorts of environments existed in the midcontinent and what happened to them. She will discuss what types of dinosaurs would have roamed across Illinois, and highlight what kinds of fossils we do have here in Illinois.
