MATTOON -- Nathan Pugh was a recent guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Mattoon.

Pugh, a Mattoon native, was named as the principal of Mattoon Middle School at the beginning of the current school year.

He graduated from Mattoon High School and received a degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and a master’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University before beginning his career in Fort Myers, Fla. While in Florida, he worked as a teacher and then as assistant principal.

In 2016, Pugh returned to Illinois, working at Neoga Elementary, moving to Canton to work as assistant principal at Ingersoll Middle School, and then finding the opportunity to return to his hometown of Mattoon with his current position at MMS.
