ST. LOUIS -- The National Agricultural Statistics Service has issued reports on current crop production and grain stocks.

Corn: Planted area, at 11.00 million acres, is down 2 percent from 2017. Corn for grain was harvested on 10.85 million acres, down 1 percent from the previous year. The corn yield is estimated at 210 bushels per acre, up 9 bushels from 2017. Production is estimated at 2.28 billion bushels, up 4 percent from last year. This is a record high yield and third highest production on record.

Soybeans: Planted area, at 10.80 million acres, up 2 percent from 2017. Harvested area, at 10.75 million acres, is up 2 percent from the previous year. The soybean yield is estimated at a record high 65 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels from 2017. Production is estimated at a record high 699 million bushels, up 14 percent from the previous year.

Sorghum: Planted area, at 18,000 acres, is up 6 percent from last year. Harvested area for grain, at 16,000 acres, is up 7 percent from 2017. The sorghum yield is estimated at 111 bushels per acre, up 28 bushels from last year. Production is estimated at 1.78 million bushels, 43 percent above the previous year.

Winter wheat: Harvested area in 2018 is estimated at 560,000 acres, up 90,000 acres from the previous year. The winter wheat yield is estimated at 66 bushels per acre, down 10 bushels from 2017. Production is estimated at 37.0 million bushels, 3 percent above the previous year.

Oats: Harvested area in 2018, at 25,000 acres, is up 5,000 acres from the previous year. The oat yield is estimated at 83 bushels per acre, up 4 bushels from 2017. Production is estimated at 2.08 million bushels, up 31 percent from the previous year.

All hay: Harvested area, at 470,000 acres, is down 4 percent from 2017. The all hay yield is estimated at 2.79 tons per acre, down 0.46 ton from the previous year. Production is estimated at 1.31 million tons, 18 percent below 2017.

Summer potatoes: Planted area, at 7,700 acres, is down 10 percent from 2017. Harvested area, at 7,600 acres, is down 6 percent from 2017. The summer potato yield is estimated at 375 cwt per acre, down 9 percent from 2017. Production is estimated at 2.85 million cwt, down 14 percent from the previous year.

Grain Stocks report

Corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 2.08 billion bushels, down 1 percent from December 1, 2017. On-farm stocks totaled 1.10 billion bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 983 million bushels. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 571 million bushels.

Soybean stocks in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 671 million bushels, up 32 percent from December 1, 2017. On-farm stocks totaled 325 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 346 million bushels. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 114 million bushels.

All wheat stocks in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 34.6 million bushels, down 26 percent from December 1, 2017. On-farm stocks totaled 1.85 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 32.7 million bushels. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 11.1 million bushels.
