MATTOON -- The new Scotty's Brewhouse restaurant at the Cross County Mall is tentatively scheduled to open to the public on Monday.
The Indianapolis-based Scotty's company, known for offering crafted signature burgers and regionally brewed beers, has renovated a previously vacant storefront at the southeast corner of the mall for what will be its second restaurant in Illinois. Scotty's also has a Champaign location.
Scotty's President Chris Martin said the chain started 23 years ago in Muncie, Ind., home to Ball State University. He said the company, which has nearly 20 restaurants, likes to open locations in communities that have a university or sports focus. Each location offers multiple TV screens for watching sports and other programs.
Martin said Scotty's has been drawn to Mattoon by the presence of Lake Land College there and Eastern Illinois University in nearby Charleston. He said the new restaurant will be engaged with both schools and with other community organizations.
In addition, Martin said Scotty's has been drawn by property owner Rural King's plans for the mall and that Mattoon-based company's community involvement. He said Rural King wants to revitalize the Mattoon mall as a regional shopping destination and a community event venue. He said a lot of other mall owners are not as active in their communities.

"They are a big part of why we think that restaurant will do well," Martin said of Rural King. Martin noted that this will be the first Scotty's restaurant within an enclosed mall. He said the Mattoon mall location also has the benefit of being near the Interstate 57 exit and the hotels there.
Martin said customers will be able to access the Mattoon Scotty's by an interior mall door and by an exterior door, which will remain open after the mall closes for the day. He said the restaurant will be a gathering place where customers can push tables together for larger groups and bring their families, adding that a children's menu is available.
Scotty's main menu features crafted signature burgers, such as the brunch burger, and Burgers of the Month, like the current double buffalo cheese curd burger. The menu also includes entrees, sandwiches and tacos, wraps, soups and salads, appetizers, desserts, and more, including 30 beers on tap.
"We have creativity to what we do. We do things as well as we possibly can," Martin said. He added that Scotty's donates $1 from every Burger of the Month ordered to the No Kid Hungry program that supports efforts toward ending childhood hunger.
Scotty's will be open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday and 11 a.m.-midnight Wednesday to Saturday. More information is available by calling 217-294-6566 or visiting https://www.scottysbrewhouse.com/mattoon.
