MAROA — The West team defeated the East team in the 29th annual Order of the Eastern Star All-Star Football Game Saturday at Walter Boyd Field 27-7.

The East team included five JG-TC area players in Shelbyville's Joel Bleskey as well as Sullivan/Okaw Valley's Cullen Dryer and Leman Jones. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond's Lance Mercer and Caleb Nettles were also a part of the 31-member East team.

Arcola coach Nick Lindsey was an assistant for the East team coached by Argenta-Oreana's Steve Kirk.  Former Arcola assistant coach Chad Eisenmenger was also an assistant.

Lindsey coached the defense among other things. It was the second time Lindsey has been an assistant in the game with the first time being in 2015.

"I enjoyed being around the kids and getting a chance to work with them," said Lindsey. "They were fun and had great personalities. It was a great chance to work with coaches like Steve Kirk and Chad Eisenmenger. I really enjoyed working with them."

The most valuable player was Pana's Cody Klein, who had three touchdowns for the West team, coached by Central A&M coach Brent Weakly, a former Sullivan, and Shelbyville assistant coach.

The West also won last year and has tied the series at 14 games each.

All proceeds from the game went to the Educational Assistance Fund of the Order of the Eastern Star.
