Theater in the Park to resume with 'Quilters'

CHARLESTON — Theatre In The Park presents “Quilters” at Daum Amphitheater, Kiwanis Park; July 23, 24, and 25 at 7 p.m. (rain date July 26).

"Quilters" is a musical with a book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, and lyrics and music by Barbara Damashek. It is about the lives of American pioneer women based on the book The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen. The show was originally developed and produced by the Denver Center Theater Company, Brockman Seawell, executive producer. It had a brief run on Broadway in 1984.

Sarah Bonham and her six daughters are portrayed by Ann Morris Bruehler, Haley Fryer, Danae Ledbetter, McKenzie Deremiah, Eliana Stewart, Abby Smith, and Emma Tolppanen. The production is staged by Sarah Philabaum and Earl Halbe, with music direction by Elizabeth Halbe, set design by Earl Halbe and Greg Ledbetter, and lighting by Tom Hawk. The orchestra members are Abigail Hopkins, Marizza Shepard, Jacob Shepard, Ethan Hayward, and Eliot Crispin.

“Quilters” is sponsored by Rural King Supply, First Mid Bank & Trust, and First Neighbor Bank; with additional support from the Coles County Arts Council. Admission is free to the public, bring your lawn chair. City personnel will be on hand to help everyone find safe seating in accordance with Phase 4 guidelines.
