CHARLESTON -- The Coles County Arts Council invites all who are interested in music and music education to their annual Honors Recital at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 4th St., in Charleston.

Twenty seven young Coles County musicians, ranging in age from first through 12th grade will be showcased. Areas of study include piano, voice, flute and violin.

The top three participants in the Senior Division (grades 6 through high school) will be announced as scholarship winners, along with the next top three as runners-up. Scholarship funds will be applied to music camp fees at Eastern Illinois University. With committee approval, an equivalent amount may be applied toward a similar camp at any college or university in Illinois. High achievement in the Junior Division will also be recognized.

Admission is free. The Arts Council encourages local music students and their parents to attend, and to consider auditioning next year. The recital will be a unique opportunity for students, families, and music instructors to meet and find out what others are accomplishing in the world of music in Coles County.
