American Legion Auxiliary Quarter Auction set

MATTOON — The American Legion Auxiliary Quarter Auction is scheduled to be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with bidding starting at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available.

The auction will feature more than 20 vendors of crafts, books, toys, purses, wallets, yard decor, makeup, gift certificates, kitchenware and other items.

The auction is a monthly event, held the third Thursday of each month, with profits going to American Legion Auxiliary projects. This month the proceeds will go to Relay for Life. The last auction was for Special Olympics. They earned $540 for that project.

The monthly quarter auction has brought in over $19,000 for the community projects.

Moultrie County history group hold meeting

SULLIVAN -- The Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society will hold its monthly general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Heritage Center in Sullivan.

The speaker will be Charles Wilhelm, who will share a Fox Movietone video from 1937 about his family of 14 boys and one girl living in Moultrie County during the Great Depression. The first seven boys all served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WW II and all came home.
