Put your money where your heart is and shop local for Small Business Saturday, this Saturday, November 30th. Small Business Saturday is always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving and this year will be the 10th year of Small Business Saturday. The day aims to draw attention to the importance of shopping local within our community. Did you know, based on a 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study, that for every $1 you spend locally, $.67 stays in the community? That can add up quickly! Not only do the retailers and community benefit from local shopping but consumers benefit as well, since often times our small, local businesses have unique items not easily found at larger retailers! Shopping local ensures that your money stays here at home, where it does the most good.
This year, the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce has been named a Neighborhood Champion to spotlight the importance of shopping local and to spread the word about our great business community right here in Charleston! Whether you’re shopping for yourself or searching for the perfect holiday gifts, I encourage you to make a day of it on Saturday! Shop for clothing, jewelry, home décor, floral arrangements and more with our local retailers! And, with all that shopping you’re bound to get hungry; stop in one of our many wonderful restaurants to refuel before heading back out to shop! Make sure to check out our shopping guide at charlestonchamber.com. We’ll see you on Saturday!
Jessica Meadows is president and CEO for the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce.
