I love the Fourth of July. To me it means cooking out, being with family, and, my favorite, Red White and Blue Days and the parade.
If you’re looking for something to do on the July 3 and July 4, Red, White, and Blue Days is the perfect activity for everyone in your family. The festivities being at Morton Park at 3 p.m. on the July 3, when the vendors open. This year, WCIA will be at the park filming for Our Town. From 4-7 p.m., Joyful Bubbles will be at the park, and that is sure to be exciting for the kiddos!
Kick off your evening with a free concert by the Hussey Brothers at 6 p.m. At 7:45 p.m. we will reveal this year’s Farmer of the Year, which is sponsored by the Charleston Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes the accomplishments and achievements of a Coles County farmer and is a wonderful honor. After the award, make sure you stay for the free evening concert, John Michael Montgomery.
Don’t forget to join us on July 4 for the annual parade at 1 p.m. The Farmer of the Year, along with many individuals and businesses, will be participating. It’s a fun tradition you won’t want to miss. And, of course, you’ll want to end your celebrations with the fireworks at the Coles County Airport at dusk. I hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July and can make it to all our community’s celebrations!
