MATTOON -- The Wild Rose Boutique opened this fall in a renovated downtown storefront, where the shop offers women's and children's apparel, home decor items, young children's toys and more.
The Mattoon shop is the newest of eight Wild Rose storefront locations for owner Rachel Cunningham of Olney, where her boutique business is based. Customers can find the Mattoon location at 120 S. 17th St., between Common Grounds and Saphire Salon & Spa.
Whitney Phillips, manager of the Wild Rose locations in Effingham and Mattoon, said the boutique offers dressy and casual women's apparel in sizes ranging from small to 3XL, as well as jewelry, purses and other accessories. She said they also offer boys' and girls' apparel in sizes ranging from newborn to children's size 16.
Phillips said every Wild Rose location has slightly different selections of merchandise. She said handmade jewelry and home decor items, including wall signs, have been particularly popular at the Mattoon location. She added that requested merchandise can be quickly transferred between the new boutique and the Wild Rose location that opened in fall 2016 off of North Keller Drive in Effingham.
"We had a lot of people from Mattoon who were shopping in Effingham. They kept saying, 'Please open in Mattoon,'" Phillips said.
Cunningham is a customer of K.C. Summers in Mattoon and was introduced to the 120 S. 17th storefront by property owner Keith Summers, Phillips said. Summers renovated the long-vacant storefront for use by Wild Rose, she said.
The renovation project refurbished part of the storefront's original wood flooring while making upgrades, including adding a sales floor partition wall with arched doorways. The storefront also has exposed brick walls and a vintage decorative tin ceiling.
"I love that they were able to work that out for us," Phillips said of the renovation. She added that Summers also renovated the adjacent long-vacant storefront for the Sapphire Salon & Spa during the same time frame.
Phillips said Wild Rose got an early introduction to Mattoon by bringing its new Mobile Wild Rose Bustique to the 2017 Bagelfest. She said the Bustique goes to festivals and other special events. Cunningham added that Wild Rose storefront locations can host after-hours shopping events with special selections of merchandise for businesses and other organizations.
Wild Rose also has storefront locations in Mount Carmel, Olney, Robinson and Salem in Illinois; and in Evansville and Vincennes in Indiana. The boutique business also has an online store at https://www.wildroseboutique.com/.
The Mattoon location is open 1-6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday each week. More information is available by calling the boutique at 217-259-9555 or by visiting https://www.facebook.com/wildroseboutiqueeffinghammattoon/.
