SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- Join the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., on Oct. 7 to learn more about the Saints of Assisi and Saint Mother Theodore Guerin during “Praying with the Mystics of Assisi and Indiana.”
The workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Providence Hall Conference Room.
During the workshop, participants will explore the lives of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi and Saint Mother Theodore Guerin through their stories, their writings and their prayer.
“Each of these three saints fascinate Christians today because they became so deeply united with God that they radiated great light to those around them,” said Sister Cathy Campbell, who will facilitate the retreat. “Francis and Clare left lasting imprints that influence many today, like Pope Francis.
“We will also spend time with Saint Mother Theodore Guerin. We will delve into the deep union with God she mirrored in her Letters and Journals, and will take time to walk the paths on which she trod at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.”
The legacies of these saints continue in religious communities that they founded, including the Men’s Order of Friars Minor, and the Third of Order of Saint Francis (Saint Francis); the Women’s Order of Saint Clare -- also known as The Poor Clares (Saint Clare); and the Sisters of Providence.
Following introductions of each saint, participants will have an opportunity for personal reflection, quiet prayer, journaling and faith sharing.
“I want people to experience the flow of contemplation in their lives,” Sister Cathy said. “I want people to see the strength of these saints who were able to make their own mark. I hope people will discover the mystic within themselves.”
Cost is $45, which includes lunch, and the registration deadline is Oct. 2.
