CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- A vehicle traffic stop in the city led to a foot pursuit after occupants allegedly were found in possession of suspected heroin Thursday.

Charleston police stopped the 2005 Mazda at approximately 10:04 a.m. in the 800 block of 18th Street for a minor traffic violation, a police report states. During the stop, passenger Matthew Grissom, 28, of Charleston was found to be in possession of suspected heroin, according to city police.

When Grissom was arrested, the driver, Robert W. Brown, fled from officers, police stated. Brown, 37, of Chicago was apprehended after a short foot pursuit and was found to be in possession of suspected heroin.

Brown was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with an intent to deliver, obstructing justice, and resisting a peace officer.

According to Charleston police, Brown and Grissom were sent to the Coles County jail and the vehicle Brown was driving was seized pending a property seizure hearing.
