I saw in the Letters to the Editor the other day that a Mattoon school board member was endorsing another current school board member for the upcoming election.
Personally, I see such endorsements from one board member to another as arrogant and smacking of cronyism (the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority without proper credentials).
I think it should be up to the voters to decide who sits on the Mattoon school board and not the board members. It’s time for voters to remember our duty this upcoming election and research and vote for the most qualified candidate for the Mattoon school board.
For this reason, I am voting for Dr. Heidi Larson.
Dr. Larson has a degree in counseling psychology and teaches in that field at Eastern Illinois University. With her college students and her numerous programs and studies, Dr. Larson has been involved with over thirty school districts responding and meeting needs across our State. This is on top of being the founder of our very own Mattoon High School’s B.I.O.N.I.C mentoring program. Her drive, commitment, and love of kids makes her more than qualified for the Mattoon school board position. In this particular race the answer is clear, Dr. Heidi Larson is the woman for the job.
I have also heard some people who are critical of Dr. Larson’s choice to send her children to a Christian school. For full disclosure, I will admit that I am the pastor of this Christian school. To this I can only say, it is a shame that some people target kids and free choices in their desire to see their candidate win an elected office. I thought our school board was about our community’s kids and our rights as parents. Let’s leave families out of this and look at the facts.
