The Coles County Public Health Department (CCHD) will offer two walk-in flu shot clinics at your LifeSpan Center on Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m..
The cost for the high dose vaccine for adults 65 years and older is $50.00 and it is covered 100 percent by Medicare. The cost for those six months to 64 years of age is and younger is $35.
The Coles County Health Department has been preparing for this upcoming flu season. They would like to inform you of the influenza vaccinations that will be offered by the CCHD at your LifeSpan Center. The CCHD will offer a quadrivalent vaccine for individuals 6 months through 64 years of age. The quadrivalent vaccine will protect against four strains of influenza (two Influenza A strains and two Influenza B strains). This will enable the CCHD to offer the most protection possible to the individuals receiving the influenza vaccine this coming season.
A high-dose influenza vaccine for individuals 65 years of age and older will also be an option – in limited quantities. The high-dose vaccine offers the best protection to this age group due to the immune system decreasing its ability to respond to the regular vaccine as people age. The high-dose vaccine offers advanced levels of antigen so that the individual will have a higher immune response - and the best protection available for this age group against the influenza virus.
Please bring your insurance/Medicare/Medicaid card with you. CCHD will take care of billing Medicare or your private insurance. Payment will be necessary at the time of the vaccination. Acceptable forms of payment include Cash, Check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards.
Individuals receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time will be asked to stay approximately 15 minutes after receiving it in order for the CCHD staff to observe and evaluate any unexpected reaction.
The Coles County Health Department and Coles County Council on Aging look forward to helping our community be prepared and protected against this up-coming flu season!
