Prediabetes means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal but not yet high enough to be type 2 diabetes. Without lifestyle changes, people with prediabetes are very likely to progress to type 2 diabetes. If you have prediabetes, the long-term damage of diabetes — especially to your heart, blood vessels and kidneys — may already be starting.
There's good news, however. Progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes isn't inevitable. Eating healthy foods, incorporating physical activity in your daily routine, and maintaining a healthy weight can help bring your blood sugar level back to normal.
The other good news is that on Monday, Nov. 26 starting at 9 a.m. at your LifeSpan Center, you will hear from a spokesperson from the Mattoon YMCA about the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program - Redefine Your Health, Transform Your Life.
During this presentation you will receive information about diabetes and how it affects the body, how prediabetes can be reversed to prevent diabetes, information regarding the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (how it came to be, how it works, etc.) and a demo of a session from the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum. There will be giveaways and a door prize - a $25 gift card to the Mattoon YMCA.
