NEWMAN -- Betty June Bennett, 94, of Newman, formerly of Brocton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 4:50 p.m. February, 4, 2018 at the Newman Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She was born December 2, 1923, in Hindsboro, the daughter of Charles and Goldie Blunk Hudson. She married Boyd Bennett on May 4, 1947 at Newman. He preceded her in death in 1984 Surviving are two daughters, Lana Ricketts and husband Bruce of Broadlands and Lisa McDaniel and husband John of Charleston. She is also survived by her grandchildren, LCDR Kelly Ricketts of N Carolina, Jacob Mohon, Paris and Kaitlin(KC) Denison, Keridwen McDaniel and Ian McDaniel all of Charleston. She was also “Grandma Buddy” to her two great grandchildren Brantley and Braxton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Kenneth Hudson.
Following their marriage, Betty and Boyd took up residence in Newman and later settled on a farm in rural Brocton. Betty was a beautician for over 50 years in Newman and Brocton. She enjoyed being outdoors doing gardening and also loved to knit, quilt and do other needlework for her family. She enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling to visit friends and family across the country.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Joines Funeral Home. 401 W. Gillogly St., Newman, with Pastor Justin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, north of Newman. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the funeral home.
