MATTOON -- Janice Lynn Garman, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at 7:47 P.M. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
The funeral service in her honor will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Pastor Gawain Bevis officiating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove. Visitation will be held Monday evening, December 18, 2017, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
Janice was born March 1, 1955 in Mattoon, IL, the daughter of Jack and Neva (Blood) Bevis. She married Howard William “Bill” Garman, Jr., on December 10, 1983; he survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Amanda Atkinson and husband Gerald of Fishers, IN; three grandchildren, Isabel, Kellen, and Quinn Atkinson of Fishers, IN; two sisters, Ramona Whalin of Mattoon, IL, Michelle Harris of Mattoon, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Janice was a devout member of the First Apostolic Church of Arthur where she served as a Sunday school teacher, and even graduated from Apostolic Bible Institute of St. Paul, MN. She belonged to the Metropolitan Car Owners Club of North America, was quite the shopper and had an impressive collection of shoes. She and Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time with one another to Hawaii and the Caribbean. Janice was devoid of any malice, had the kindest heart, and a gentle soul. She loved her family, all children, and grandchildren who will miss her greatly.
