ARCOLA -- LaVerne H. Tuttle, 96, of Arcola, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Carriage Crossing in Arcola.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Brent Bud officiating. Burial will follow in the VanVoorhis Cemetery, rural Hindsboro. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
LaVerne was born August 11, 1921 in Hindsboro, the daughter of Alva and Gertrude Hayes Bunten. She married Emery Tuttle in St. Louis, Missouri on July 27, 1942; he preceded her in death on March 19, 1989.
She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Kerry Tuttle and wife Carol of Peoria; Mark Tuttle and wife Kathy of Arcola; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Justin Tuttle and wife Kelsey of Peoria; Elizabeth Mann and husband Jay of Brooklyn, New York; Derek Tuttle of Arcola; and 2 great grandchildren, Mae and Beau Tuttle of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Huffman; and brothers, Murle, Archie, Arthur, and Charles.
LaVerne graduated from Hindsboro High School and then enrolled in a school of cosmetology and became a licensed beautician. She helped her family farm and raise show cattle near Kemp from 1952-1989. She was proud to be a farm wife and mother and was an excellent cook, especially known for her pies, rum cake, and angel food cakes. She was a member of the Arcola First Christian Church; Hindsboro American Legion Auxiliary; and Hindsboro Bunco Club.
