MATTOON -- Malcolm “Mack” N. Fox, age 72, of Mattoon passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 1:37 a.m.
Funeral services for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Schilling Funeral Home with Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Janesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Schilling Funeral Home.
Mack was born on April 12, 1944 in Vincennes, IN the son of Merle and Dorothy (Kimmel) Fox. On October 13, 1972 he married Sharon J. (Nelms) Fox.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sharon J. (Nelms) Fox of Mattoon, IL; son, Edward (Jennifer) Fox of Spearfish, SD; daughter, Kimmel (David) Jenkins of Minonk, IL; grandsons, Taylor and Devan Fox; granddaughters, Miranda and Shary Jenkins; brothers, Bill (Marge) Fox and Blaine (Evelyn) Fox; sister, Beth (Steve) Shearer; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Dorothy Fox.
Mack was a member of the South Side Church of Christ. His first love was the church. He began teaching Bible classes when he was in the 7th grade and continued on that path as a preacher at numerous congregations for many years. Mack worked as a teacher, principal, and superintendent at the Arcola High School for 35 years. He loved his career and his students.
Mack was an avid gardener, genealogist, very dedicated family man, Christian, and an excellent cook! He was a member of the Mattoon Lions, and was very active in volunteer work at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. He was also a member of the Douglas County Retired Teachers Association, as well as a member of the Illinois Retired Teacher Association Foundation Board.
In lieu of flowers, Mack’s wishes are that donations be made to The Arcola Foundation, Malcolm N. Fox & Sharon J. Fox Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 100, Arcola, IL 61910.
