MATTOON -- David Michael “Mike” McKinley, age 76 of Mattoon, IL, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon, IL at 5:11 P.M.
Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Burial will follow the services at Roselawn Cemetery, 1285 W. State Street, Charleston, IL 61920. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M., Thursday, October 5, 2017 until the time of service.
Mike was born January 29, 1941 in Charleston, IL, the son of William J. and Wilma P. (Halloran) McKinley. He married the love of his life, Glenna M. Murphy on September 18, 1961.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Glenna McKinley; three children , Brett McKinley and wife Rachel of Milton, WI, Shelly Renfro and husband Barry of Milton, KY, and Michael McKinley of Mattoon, IL; two grandchildren, Romy and Brielle McKinley of Milton, WI; two step-grandchildren, Corey and Blake Renfro of Milton, KY. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Mike was a retired employee of Ameren CIPS as an engineering technician. Proudly, he served our country in the National Guard. He was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, IL. He belonged to Moose Lodge of Charleston, IL, Mattoon Eagles Club, and American Legion Post 88 of Mattoon, IL where he made lifelong friendships with fellow members. Mike loved baseball and football and could be found rooting for his favorite sports teams, the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. He traveled often to Wisconsin and Kentucky to see his grandchildren; they were the light of his life. Nothing was more important to Mike than his wife Glenna, his children, and grandchildren. He will be missed and cherished by them forever.
