CASEY -- Mildred Imogene Mann, age 88, of Casey, IL passed away peacefully at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN surrounded by family. She was born September 11, 1929 at home in East Oakland Township, IL, the daughter of William Raymond Hunt and Opal (Curtis) Hunt. On November 6, 1970 she married Frederick R. Mann in Casey, IL. He passed away on January 8, 1995.
Survivors include her daughter, Georgia Hardy (Tom) of Casey, IL; sons, W.C. McBride (Regina) of Arkadelphia, AR, and Chris McBride (Jane) of Lenoir City, TN; eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and one soon to be great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Jimmy W. Hunt, and sister, Edith Ann Sampson.
Her childhood home was on a farm in a region of Coles County bordered on three sides by the Embarras River known to its residents as Yellowhammer. She grew up with no electricity at home, attended a country school surrounded by many extended family members, and was Saved by the Lord Jesus in the Oak Grove Baptist Church. As a child, she never owned a bicycle, but instead rode her horse, Tony, given to her by her father as a newborn colt at the age of four. Although her family raised some cattle on their farm, she never tasted beef until becoming a freshman at Oakland High School. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1947.
Most of Mildred’s adult years were in the Casey area. She worked at Ettlebrick Shoe Factory (27 years), McQuay-Norris (10 years), Pap-R-Products (5 years), and a number of other manufacturing related jobs. She enjoyed her family, dogs, fishing, home, gardening, cooking, quilting, woodworking and other crafts, and jigsaw puzzles. Above all, she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no public services. The family will privately celebrate her life at a later date.
All life was precious to Mildred and she believed every child should have a chance at a quality life. Memorial donations may be made to the charity she supported for many years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
