LINTON, Ind. -- Robert G. Waters, age 85 of Linton, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017. He was born August 10, 1932 in Charleston, Illinois to the late Berl and Ethel Waters.

He graduated from Charleston High SChool in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara M. Young on October 29, 1950. Shortly after marriage Bob joined the Navy and served as a signalman for his enlistment. After the Navy Bob then went to work for the Nickel Plate Railroad, now the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, as a telegrapher and then as a train dispatcher. Bob retired from the railroad and with Barbara they built a home on the edge of the Greene County State Forest, on the edge of a lake. He loved to go fishing, he would often catch and release the fish.

They lived in Mulberry, Indiana until 1969 when the railroad transferred him to Muncie, Indiana, then later transferred him to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

While in Mulberry, Bob was active with the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his volunteer activities. After moving to Linton, he was eager to Volunteer where needed and to help others.

Bob is survived by his son, Robert (Marcia) Waters, of Linton; daughters, Rebecca Garringer and Beth (Carl Cooper) Waters; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and his brother, Floyd Waters, of Illinois.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 10:00 am Friday, December 29, 2017 with an hour of visitation prior to service time. There will be a burial at Shiloh Cemetery in Lerna, Illinois after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations be given to the Linton Community Group or the Linton Food Pantry through the funeral home.
